French Industrial Christmas Vignette

A lot of you probably know this by now, but there are two things that are very true about our home:

1.  I love using pieces that are one-of-a-kind with tons of personality that speak to our family's interests.
2.  My favorite spot in our house is the cozy little corner of our living room.

As I was decorating our home for Christmas the other night, I had an "ah ha!" moment.  I'm starting to figure out that I love using non-Christmasy items and figuring out ways to make them more festive.  Plus, I didn't want to spend a ton on decorations when I could use what I already had.

I found this old typewriter that was perfect for our military-inspired office for $9 at Goodwill earlier this year, but our office is a room that we barely use.

And I thought, hey, let's write a letter to Santa to plead our case this year and give the typewriter a new temporary home in our living room.

Thus, this French Industrial Christmas vignette was born.

I stuck a few spigs of our fresh cut tree into some old books and voila!  Holiday decor.

My mom and I have been known to "prune" magnolia and holly trees in December to use the clippings around the house when I was younger.  I'm carrying on that tradition in our own home.

(She might have stolen some of these magnolia leaves for me to make my wreath...my lips are sealed.)

And I had gotten this Ansel Adams print on the cheap a few weeks ago by cutting up an old calendar of mine.  This snow-capped mountain seems so at home here.

All of it makes me want to cozy up in our $65 Goodwill leather chair find even more.

A collection of Christmas stories by Dickens is waiting for me once my coffee is finished brewing.

Olivia is definitely being introduced to Tiny Tim this year.  ;)

Just when I thought I couldn't love our milk painted media cabinet any more, Christmas comes along and makes it even more awesome.

What do you think? Are there any non-Christmasy items that you've fancied up for the holidays?  Let me know in the comments!  I'd love to hear about them!

Blessings,
